“Charged here on my way to Connecticut from the Philadelphia area. This was my first time using Applegreen’s DC Fast Charging for my Mach E. The charger itself was good. Seemed to be well serviced and operating normally. I used the Applegreen app to initiate, pay and stop the charge. It worked as advertised. The charging area was clean and close to the Service Area building, which has plenty of food options and good bathrooms. Not as robust as some other service areas on the GSP or NJ Turnpike, but a good location for a rest stop. The location of the chargers is close to the gas pumps, which have attendants. I’m not sure if they can assist when it comes to the chargers, but at least there are people close by for safety reasons. Trash cans, decent lighting, and an air pump are also located near the chargers. A grassy area which could be handy if you have dogs is located near the chargers as well. I only give it 4 stars because, like most EV Charging stations, there is no cover for operating in inclement weather. Why these companies don’t do that is beyond me. I really wish they did. Other than that it was a good experience all around. I’m very happy that New Jersey has partnered with Applegreen to build out a better EV Fast Charging infrastructure. On my trip I did see other rest areas, on the GSP and NJTP which were installing Applegreen fast chargers.” — Aaron Couture, 11 months ago

“We have used this charger three times. Each time we were the only car charging. It’s easy to find at this northbound service area. We don’t need to charge on this 225 mile drive home from Atlantic City. Since we always need to stop for a bathroom break, we plug in and charge for a 10% charge (so I can keep track of our range). This lets us get home with over a 100 miles on our car (in the summer). Two trips ago we charged 9.37kW for $5.90 including tax so $0.59kW. This was too expensive. This time the price was $0.40kW which is fine and even lower at $0.35 if you use the Applegreen app. Thank you Applegreen. This is a NJ price. We also stopped at an Applegreen on the NY Thruway and the price was $0.64kW…wow. I’m also disappointed at how slow Applegreen has been to add EV chargers to all the rest areas on the Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike and the NY State Thruway, all of which we have used. Applegreen seems to be taking over all the service areas where we drive the most. As they build these new service areas EV chargers should be there when the service area opens. Eight chargers should be the minimum. A bonus would be if they have canopies like the gas stations. On the other hand I like the chargers they use and that they have chargers at some of the new rest areas. Tesla chargers are being removed from many Applegreen run rest areas in NJ. While I don’t use Tesla chargers it means that more Teslas will be using the Applegreen owned chargers. If Applegreen matched or exceeded the number of Tesla chargers this wouldn’t be an issue as the Applegreen chargers support both CCS and NACS plugs. Having only four plugs at Larry Doby and only two plugs at Connie Chung will be an issue. I hope everyone helps push Applegreen into installing a lot more chargers and lowering the price. For Tesla owners, Tesla is adding more chargers off exits but on GSP charging is more convenient. I gave a 4 Star review because of the limited number of chargers here and Applegreens business decision to limit the number of chargers at most of their rest areas. I hope this will change. We are lucky as we do most of our travel on off days/hours and never on busy holidays.” — Bill, a year ago
