“I recently had to charge my vehicle at the Electrify America station located at The Avenues mall in Jacksonville. This station features four 350 kW stalls, but unfortunately, there are no CHAdeMO plugs, which is inconvenient for those driving vehicles like the Nissan Leaf. When I arrived, all the stalls were occupied, and I managed to secure the last available one. However, the charging experience was less than ideal. Despite being in the part of my charging curve where I should have been receiving around 180 kW, I was only getting about 78 kW. This was quite disappointing, especially considering the station’s advertised speeds. Plug & Charge, a feature that should make charging seamless, didn’t work at this location. I had to resort to using tap-to-pay with my membership ID through my digital wallet, which was a hassle. After I started charging, I noticed that the demand for chargers at this station was extremely high, with four more vehicles—two Mustang Mach-Es, a Hyundai Ioniq 5, and a Mercedes E series—arriving shortly after me. The high demand clearly shows the need for more charging stalls in this area. It’s also worth noting that The Avenues mall is a prime location for AC chargers. People typically spend a few hours shopping, dining, or even getting their hair and nails done, which would make slower AC charging more viable. However, this station only caters to fast charging, which adds to the frustration of not being able to charge at the expected speeds. Given the slower-than-advertised charging speeds, the lack of Plug & Charge functionality, and the high demand with insufficient stalls, I can only rate this station three stars. Expanding this location with additional stalls and including CHAdeMO plugs would greatly improve the charging experience, especially for those who rely on this station due to a lack of home charging options.” — John M (The Closer), 2 years ago
