“Consistently Reliable, Fast Charging – One of the Best on Long Island Electrify America at Smith Haven Mall is hands down one of the most reliable and efficient EV charging stations I’ve used—especially for high-speed charging. The chargers here are consistently operational, with most offering 150kW and up to 350kW fast charging, which makes topping off my EV quick and hassle-free. The location is perfect—right in the mall parking lot—so you can easily grab a coffee or run a quick errand while your car charges. The only downside is that some people leave their fully charged vehicles parked while they shop longer than necessary, which can tie up a stall during busy times. But that’s more of a driver etiquette issue, not a reflection on the quality of the service itself. Electrify America has really done a great job with uptime and user experience here. The app integration is smooth, plug-and-charge works flawlessly for supported vehicles, and the charging speeds are consistent and accurate. I especially appreciate how the station is well-lit and maintained, giving a real sense of security even at night. “We normally charge our 2023 Mercedes EQB 300 at home but due to a wiring fault we ended using Electrify America's fast chargers because we get free 30 minutes sessions from our vehicle manufacturer. The first time we tried to charge it was an experiment (no urgency) and was not critical. However, the experience was not perfect. The only open stall was not working, and when another opened up we were able to get a charging session going at the maximum rate our vehicle can handle (100kW). In just about 30 minutes our vehicle was charged to our specified maximum of 80%. After disconnecting, the machine reported some type of communication error but did correctly show a session fee of $0.00. I later checked and after more than one month still cannot see this charging history in the vehicle manufacturer's app (MercedesMe). Regardless, we were able to charge the battery. The second time we were traveling back and was down to just about 50 mile range and we needed more for my wife to drive to work the following day and back. There were 2 open stalls so we thought it would be easy. Alas, this was not the case. While we struggled, ultimately all 3 stalls opened up. However, the MercedesMe app and the car (MBUX) all reported status "unknown" for all the chargers the entire time and we were unable to initiate a session. We also tried using a MercedeMe charge card which we were told would work for payment but the system didn't accept it. The chargers kept asking instead for payment. We tried calling Electrify America customer support but hung up after waiting to be connected to someone for about a little over 7 minutes, then tried MercedesMe but being 7p on a Sunday night we were not very optimistic. After another almost 5 minute wait for MercedesMe customer support, we gave up and used our credit card. It applied the $50 hold as indicated on the screen and proceed to charge at 100kW with a listed rate of $0.48/kW and no idle fees. We were in a rush so after 21 minutes when we had enough range for my wife to commute to/from work 2 days in a row without charging we disconnected. I hit stop on the machine, and it asked if I wanted a receipt. I disconnected from the car then I answered yes and it started to ask me for a mobile phone number. I then tried to back out as I didn't want to enter my cell phone number but when I hit 'Exit' the machine froze on a Help screen and was not responsive. I tried to reconnect the charger to our vehicle but it wouldn't initialize and remained on the same Help screen. After several minutes we ended up leaving for home. The following morning I noticed that the $50 hold had been removed and a new charge for $17.21 in it's place. When I had hit stop, the machine had shown a total of $10.55 so I wasn't sure why the discrepancy and without a receipt I couldn't determine how the amount was determined. I called Electrify America again and after a long hold did get in touch with a customer support person who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. With little information other than the date and location of charger (I was able later to give her the exact charger ID on the sticker on the charger), she was able to quickly pull up our charging session and send me the receipt by text immediately. A little math (and I should've done this myself) 21 minutes x 100kW x $0.48 with tax=$17.21 explained the correct amount due. Next, she was able to get the charge refunded without me having to contact MercedesMe. Finally, she advised that in the future we should call then directly and they can remotely unlock the charger even if we were traveling in Canada (she mentioned that EA is building many more chargers across the US and Canada). Although our charging experience when we needed it most was far from perfect, in still rating then 5 stars for the exemplary customer service - while the hold was relatively looking, once I got connected the process was far and smooth. We will definitely continue using EA chargers almost exclusively at least for the next 2 years.” — Harold Bien, 3 years ago
