“***THIS POST IS MORE FOR NEWBIES THAN EXPERIENCED TESLA PEOPLE*** As a new EV owner I was both excited and petrified to do my first public charging. 🤔 I bought my brother's 2023 Toyota Bz4x. I freely admit to being not against EV cars EXACTLY, but wanted to wait a bit so they could work out the bugs and kinks. But as life often does I got thrown a curve ball. My brother is very tech all the way. He showed me how things worked and what some buttons do and he even took me around to charging stations and showed me the differences. I don't plan to drive this car anywhere. Just to work and back and to run errands. I don't want to spend actual money to charge my car! The benefit of having one is not having to pay the fuel costs. I've had the car now 2 weeks. The first week I charged at home. I hadn't driven it a lot. I think I was at 70%. I plugged in at about 10 am and unplugged it around 5 pm. It had only hit 77% in all that time. So now I know how long it's gonna take when I'm home. I'm a renter and there is no way my landlord will install a charger for my car. After a week of driving it from 77% it dropped to 52% this morning. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try a "fast charger". Ha! Well lemme tell ya Flying J chargers are crap! I truly thought I was just dumb. On the third try and the third "pump" I pulled out Google and asked how the Hell I do this. I was doing it right! I gave up. I went over to Sam's Club. The first one I tried told me there was an error, unplug and replug. I did that twice. At this point I started looking for a place I could scream and the cops wouldn't get called. I thought, OK one more time at a different pump. MAGIC! It worked! Woo Hoo. It took a hour to go from 52% to my preset stop at 90%. It didn't feel like an hour. Good advice: plug your car in, set a timer on your phone, do your shopping. Two birds. One stone. I find it amusing they charge you for letting your car sit there when it's done charging. I compare it to old fashioned meters. Those meter maids would always nail me if I was 3 minutes past time. Because I'm a new EV owner and I don't have much experience with charging I can't provide much insight. However, if it's going to be like this morning my advice is to download an app like PlugShare and read reviews. I downloaded ChargeHub and I actually love this app cuz it not only gives me locations, you can sort by speed, what's available, and it gives the cost. There is a new (I'm sorry I don't know the lingo) charging station at Hertz Car Rental out at 19 W North Temple. BP Pulse is the brand. They have 24 pumps and they have CCS1 and NACS plugs. 400 kWh. They're the only location in Salt Lake City thus far. My advice from a newbie AVOID FLYING J and look for the more well taken care of pumps like Sam's Club. I hope I made someone giggle cuz they've gone thru the same thing I just did. Oh, and it cost me about $10 to top off. 😂😁🤣” — Charity “Cherdy”, a month ago

“In a nice area between Sam's Club and an apartment complex. Occasionally a charger will be out and the most cars I've seen here at a time is 3-4 so there is always a charger open. Having the app and being a member will save you lots of money down the line if you need to charge your car frequently otherwise you need a card with at least $50 so they can put a hold on it while you juice up. “Charged here 6 times now when in town for work and have been disappointed every time. This is by far the slowest EA station I have ever used with my ID4 and have been unable to get a charge speed of anything greater than 81kw but typically sits around 77-69kw... Which has resulted in charging times well in excess of 30 minutes to charge to 80%! I've never needed more than 28 mins to get to 80% regardless of what my charge state was when I started charging. Photo is after 25 mins of charging already and a second charging session. Some of the spaces are also unnecessarily small and quite tight for my vehicle to be between the lines but also not hitting the pilons and these last 2 times here now it can't even charge a total of 20% in less than 30 mins.
