“This EV Connect “fast” charger at the Modena rest area is a huge disappointment. It’s a single stall with one CCS plug and one CHAdeMO plug, but only one car can charge at a time. It’s supposed to be 50 kW, but it’s derated to 40 kW, making it painfully slow to top off even to 70%. A rest area with this much traffic needs at least six stalls, with a minimum of 150 kW chargers, ideally 250 kW. A 50 kW charger just doesn’t cut it anymore. On the bright side, there’s a gas station here, so you can wash your windshield, throw away garbage, buy a snack, and get out of the rain. They have restrooms available, although during my visit, they were filthy. The area is well-lit, open 24 hours, and there were staff around to answer questions. While the EV Connect app worked quickly to start charging, the charger itself is slow—definitely not “fast” by any modern standard. If you need a real fast charge, find another station nearby because this one won’t meet your needs.” — John M (The Closer), 2 years ago
“Should've been 1 star but gave 2 stars because I actually got it to work and charge my car. However, to do that I had to call the 1-800 number on the machine. I first tried the EV connect app on my phone but it needed to be updated and I had no phone service there. Also no Wi-Fi. Then I tried using the credit card option and it kept saying there was a problem. Tried another credit card, same problem. Finally called the number on the machine and thankfully got to a human without waiting at all. She checked the machine on her side and confirmed it worked. Then gave her my EV connect info and she led me thru the steps to get charging started. “NOT IN SERVICE. This is a single charging station they is out of service. There's a sign glued to it stating so. It is located on the side of the building.
