“Applegreen places a $30 authorization hold on every charging attempt, including failed attempts. While trying to charge my vehicle, the initial connection failed. After unplugging and retrying, I was able to successfully charge. However, the failed first attempt generated one $30 hold, and the successful second attempt generated another $30 hold. One actual charging session resulted in two pending holds totaling $60, which was my entire available balance. At my next stop, also an Applegreen station, I could not charge because those holds had frozen my available funds. I was left stranded two hours from my destination with insufficient range and no access to my own money. I contacted customer service. They would not release the holds, could not authorize a charging session, and told me nothing could be done except escalate the issue. I was also told the funds would not be available for 24 hours. Failed charging attempts should not create unreleased authorization holds that prevent customers from charging at subsequent locations. Stacking authorization holds from failed attempts is a serious system failure for infrastructure people rely on during travel.” — paula, 3 months ago

“This charging station at Apple Green in Plattekill, New York, is an absolute disgrace. Not a single one of the chargers worked. I spent a frustrating five minutes trying to get one to function, only to realize that the other five stalls were also out of service. This place is a complete waste of space and a major letdown for EV drivers who depend on reliable charging infrastructure. Each of the six stalls offers both CCS and CHAdeMO plugs, and there’s even an adapter for NACS, which is a great feature—if only any of it worked. There’s also a thoughtfully designed handicap stall, which could have been a fantastic addition, allowing more people to charge with ease. Unfortunately, it’s all just for show because none of the chargers were operational. This station should have been a beacon of convenience for EV drivers, but instead, it stands as a glaring example of how poor maintenance can severely hinder the adoption of electric vehicles. For those considering this station, avoid it at all costs. Not only will you waste your time, but it’s clear that whoever is responsible for maintaining this site has failed entirely. With the growing need for dependable charging infrastructure, stations like this only set back progress. EV drivers deserve better than this.
